I have
dealt with Robert Morey's "Allah is the Moon god" error in the book,
Allah,
Divine or Demonic? in Appendix
No. One.
Here, I shall examine his Arab bashing in more detail, and we now have enough information to learn that he is a Reconstructionist Hyper-Calvinist. Robert Morey finally browsed the book I wrote on Islam, and he has tried to open dialogue on the subject. Martin Lloyd Jones once said, "We do not debate the Truth, we declare it." This is our policy at Balaam's Ass Speaks. Robert Morey is a PhD (Pile Higher and Deeper) so we do not expect him to take counsel in any way shape or form. He has published a number of books, so some of you will at once dismiss my comments because you are impressed by a man from a Reformed school who writes books. Run along please.

"Author of more than twenty-five books, Dr. Robert A. Morey has earned degrees in Philosophy, theology, and Christian apologetics (Westminster Theological Seminary). He has had personal training from Walter Martin, Francis Schaeffer, Gordon Clark, and Cornelius Van Til. Dr. Morey's books have been listed in Christianity Today annual "Best Books of the Year," and Christian Booksellers Association"s "The Best of Good Books." He has been on hundreds of TV and radio programs and has spoken at universities, colleges, and seminaries throughout the U.S. and the all over the world. His life verse is Jude 3-- Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."
In Morey's catalogue his "Statement of Faith" is classically Reformed-- There is NO statement of Faith!!! He simply says he is defending the Christian Creeds. Is that the Heidelberg Confessions, Westminster Confessions, Belgique Confessions, or the Vatican II Council and the Canons of the Roman Church? We may never know. That he boasts of being discipled by Walter Martin indicates that he is soft on the Roman Church, since that is Martin's wimpy position.
I note Morey's reception "all over the world," (which usually means Canada last summer,) in seminaries, which are ALL doctrinal black holes. I notice his degrees in philosophy, which is the chief source of agnostic and pagan doctrines of devils in the Lord's Church today. I note that he is well received while Gail Riplinger, D A Waite, Dr. Otis Fuller, and any other Bible defender is blasted and 100% avoided by the Christian Booksmellers Asso. I note that he is the darling of Christianity Today, the most nasty promoter of Christendom's Communist and socialist garbage. This magazine was the one that hired Kenneth Kantser (sp?), who mocked Fundamentalist's concerns over the New Age and the Antichrist.
Morey is known best in Fundamental circles for his book, Islamic Invasion, in which he bashes Muslims and Arabs heartily, while failing to give them the precious Gospel of Jesus Christ. He boasts of being a defender of the Gospel in his catalogue, yet I have yet to see where he has given the Gospel as an effort to persuade a sinner to come to Christ, This is classic Reformed lilly-livered scummy sloppy-agape "evangelism."
Yet, a good number of Fundamentalists have picked up Islamic Invasion and promote it. Why? Answer: The Fundamentalists who do so have either NOT checked the man out, or these Fundamentalist share Morey's zeal to hate and bash Arabs and Muslims. Islamic Invasion has NO invitation to Christ in real evangelistic terms. Those of you promoting this book are cursing the souls of Arabs and Muslims, and their blood will be on your hands. Hey, are you in it to prove a point, or are you here to lead sinners to Christ. Morey is here to prove the Westminster Confession is just as good as the King James Bible.
Here are the subjects we will discuss:
A. Robert Morey is an Arab basher.
B. Robert Morey is a Hyper-Calvinist.
C. Robert Morey is a Reconstructionist.
D. Robert Morey has no zeal for the salvation of Muslims.
A. Robert Morey is an Arab Basher.
This subject is perhaps the most bizarre of Morey's discussions. In a pamphlet he wrote called, Islam, a White Slaver's Religion, Morey proceeds to prove that Muhammed was a White Man. That's right folks. Not Semitic, but a descendant of Japheth!! He quotes a Hadith (saying) of Muhammed from an unspecified source. The Hadith come in several versions, depending on who translated a particular version. Morey fails to give the reader the version of the Hadith he quotes, thus leaving the reader unable to verify if he was really using ANY copy of the Hadith of Muhammed.
For the sake of argument, we will take his word for it. The Hadith he quotes are actually the words of some of Muhammed's friends. A rider on a camel comes up and asks, "Who amongst you is Mohammed?" The group's answer, "This white man reclining on his arm." Morey adds another quote to prove Muhammed was a White Man. He quotes another Hadith in which Muhammed's friends boast that the Prophet had white arm pits. Finally, Morey rests his case by quoting another Hadith which states that Muhammed had a white penis.
Now, there is the work of a PhD for you. White arm pits, white penis, and his friends called him a White Man. What is going on here? Well, most dark folks have white arm pits and penises, compared to the rest of their body that is. So, the only thing left to rationalize is the "White Man" claim of the Prophet's followers. Morey needs to crawl out of his big chair and travel the Middle East and Africa. Nearly every culture in that part of the world admires the folks among their clans who are lighter than the rest. Even in the USA, Black ladies often lighten their skin. (White ladies darken their skin-- people are funny, right?)
So, knowing that Muhammed was also claimed by the Semitic Arab Kouraish tribe of Mecca, which is documented all through the Koran, Hadith, and history, we can then conclude that Muhammed was NOT a White Man, as Morey is. Muhammed had light colored skin. That is all!! Morey, after alleging Muhammed was a White Man, goes on in his Mother Goose logic to make Muhammed a White Slaver because he had Black slaves. Logic weak, pound pulpit.
This is Morey's way of making the Arab Muslim feel like a great fool. The problem is that Morey is playing to the peanut gallery, for no Arab or Mullah would take this seriously, nor would ANY real Arabist scholar in the USA or Europe.
Now, we move on to Morey's use of the Bible to bash Arabs:
Morey said, in his rag, The Truth Seekers, Sept-Dec, 1995, "...if the Muslims have their way, they will kill every Jew and every Christian on the planet." So, Doctor, why didn't they do so in the 1300 years between Muhammed and 1948. When the Zionists arrived in Israel in the 1940s, they found Jews, Catholic Arabs, and Muslim Arabs living rather peacefully. This can be seen in the old geographical books like John Stoddard's series, from the steel plate etchings and editorial. I have visited with a number of Jews and Arabs who attest to this fact. The present hate is the result of White Race tinkering and Germanized Zionist Jews who set about after 1945 to destroy any peace between the old world Arabs and Jews in Palestine. Perhaps Morey has been listening to too many Zionist tour guides.
Morey, and all Reconstructionists, need to get the world ready for the Kingdom of Messiah. According to their diminished view of Jesus' ability to establish His own Kingdom all by Himself, Morey et al have quite a job ahead of them. They have to get the Arabs out of Israel, convince the Jews that Jesus is Messiah, and turn blond haired blue eyed Zionists into real blood line Jews. I am delighted to inform you sorry Reconstructionists that Jesus Christ is quite able to do this in seven short years, and without one bit of help from you.
In the same issue of Truth Seekers above, Morey proceeds to show how the Ishmaelites were absorbed into the Midianite tribes. He quotes Genesis 37:25-28; 39:1; and Judges 8:24. These texts have absolutely nothing to say about the fate of the Ishmaelites in historic context. They only talk about Ishmaelites in certain biblical events.
Morey fails to note that David's camel keeper was an Ishmaelite, 1 Chronicles 27:30 Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: It is interesting that an Ishmaelite turns up to hire on as David's camel keeper exactly 300 years after Morey declared all Ishmaelites extinct. Now, that is what you can do if you go get a PhD folks. Only an Evolutionist could do better at fixing history.
Morey also fails gloriously to enter the comments of the Rabbis and Josephus regarding the validity of the Ishmaelites-- that they were still on the scene during Josephus' era, and that the Rabbis held them to be secure in the heritage of Abraham. I have dealt with this at length in Chapter One of Allah, Divine or Demonic. AND, I give you buckets of bibliography from epigraphs and cuneiform writings to stand behind my account. Morey fails to tell of the Ishmaelites who ruled all over the Middle East, nor does he notice the Shepherd Kings who ruled in Egypt at the time of Joseph's arrival there-- and who were from Nabatea in North Arabia. Just ignore them and they will stop existing, eh Doc? Well, not any more friend. They won't go away for a long time either.
Finally, and I see no reason to show mercy on Morey at this point, the Doc failed to include the monumental prophetic entries on behalf of the Ishmaelites by Christ Himself and by Isaiah.
First, Morey ignored the promise of God to Hagar: Genesis 16:11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. 12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. 13 And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? 14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
Who was Ishmael's brother? Answer-- Isaac (I Chron. 1:28). AND, Doc, there is NO indication Ishmael or Isaac made a fuss over this in their day. AND, Doc, Ishmael has EL in his name. Indeed, Ishmael and Isaac came together to burry their father in a very civil manner according to Genesis 25:9.
Now, here is the text Morey missed, in spite of his PhD and high toned scholarship. AND, this is why we don't trust Scholars at Balaam's Ass Speaks. AND, this is why we don't debate them. They play "lie and dice" all the way.
NOTE: Isaiah 60:1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. 4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. 5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. 6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD. 7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.
Who are Kedar and Nebaioth? Answer: Sons of Ishmael (I Chronicles 1:29-31; Genesis 25:12-16). Twelve sons, twelve "princes" blessed by Jehovah. Oh, "treason" you yell. Read this: Genesis 17:18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! 19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. 21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
Our genius scholar missed that one also. Twelve and Twelve-- Ishmael and Isaac (Jacob). The ONLY distinction is that Isaac got the Covenant. The notion that Israel is God's favorite, and He hates the Arabs is PURE BUNK. It is the theology of Bullwinkle. (Apologies to Bullwinkle and Rocky)
Back to the text from Isaiah 60. You must see that, during the Kingdom rule of Messiah Christ, the sons of Ishmael will come up to the altar in Jerusalem to worship and bring sacrifice animals, AND CHRIST WILL ACCEPT THEM. If that makes you uncomfortable, then you will have to take it up with Christ. He said He wants it that way. READ IT. The nations bring gifts and bow low-- Ishmael's sons bring sacrifices in the Old Testament model. Only a Reformed theologian could miss the point there. Ishmaelites, indeed all Semites, are back in the family in the Kingdom. Even Ethiopia is in: Psalms 68:31 Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God. Also, the Semites in Egypt and Syria will be included in one sense anyway: Isaiah 11:16 And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt. AND: Isaiah 19:23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. 24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land: 25 Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.
THAT last one will make Robert Morey run for cover. But, never fear, he will spiritualize it into the Maccabbean era no doubt, or he could say it was fulfilled when Emperor Taurus Fundiator conquered the Visigoths. It is clearly the family of Semites who are brought back in a great family reunion in the Messianic Kingdom, though it is very clear that Israel has the Covenant and the Real Estate of the Promise.
Now, the next one I don't expect Morey to find alone. A bigot and Arab hater can be excused for missing this one. Look at this: Zephaniah 3:10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering. 11 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain. 12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. 13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
Now, this is the Glorious Kingdom of Messiah being prophesied to Israel. First, the Zionists seem to be implied as being destroyed by God for their "pride" and "haughty" attitude about the Holy Mountain in Jerusalem. Then, before the glory settles in on Jerusalem, God will secure, "in the midst of thee" (I.E. in the midst of Israel) "an afflicted and poor people." Who is "afflicted and poor" in Israel today, BUT also not of the "thee" in the context? Answer: The Palestinian Arabs.
Now, Doc, you have just had a lesson in who are Ishmaelites, that they are still here, that they will STAY through the Kingdom of Messiah, and that the "Palestinian Problem" will NOT be solved by some cake unturned with a PhD.
B. Robert Morey is a Hyper-Calvinist.
When I was at Biola College (disclaimer today), I was somehow honored to be the mascot of the Talbot Seminary Hyper-Calvinists. They would try their verbose Calvinism on me, and when I understood it, they would figure they had it down to common terms, and my reward for being the guinea pig was that my donuts and coffee were free in the school fountain. Good deal, I say.
During that era, Talbot Seminary was in a state of slippage already, and one sign of this was when they called Cornelius Van Til from Westminster Mausoleum and Seminary to speak at the Talbot Chapel one day. At the coffee call of the Calvinist gang later, I heard that Van Til was so high toned that only Charles Fineburg, the seminary president, could take notes, and all the students lost Van Til before the lecture was half over. Cornelius Van Til was an arrogant scholarly snob who would NOT come down to earth for love nor money. He was the touchstone of his era for insane Hyper-Hyper-Hyper-Calvinists. He was, as they say in Oklahoma, "worthless as tits on a bore hog" to the ordinary man or woman.
Cornelius Van Til is on Robert Morey's boast sheet he sends out as a personal mentor of his. That tells me that Morey is a Hyper-Calvinist. I know them well. I spent 14 years in Michigan pastoring Churches in their midst. They are arrogant to ALL whom they find fall behind them one whit in Calvinist zeal. I hasten to note that there are Reformed folks who are born again, but I also know they are NOT in the snob category. One was Leonard Verduin. He was a sweet and godly man, and he was patient with Gentiles who dared to believe man was given choice by God. Verduin even refused to have his babies sprinkled until they knew how to repent and believe. Startling ain't it folks. AND, Verduin was far and away the best scholar and author the Reformed Movement ever produced, and that includes Luther and old John himself. Unlike Van Til, Verduin defined every term he used until he was sure the dummies knew what he was trying to say.
So, I conclude that Robert Morey is a product of pedantic verbosity in the Van Til model. I also, note that Morey boasts of sitting at the feet of Francis Schaeffer. This is the man who spent his whole career trying to revive Evangelical panty wastes. A few days before he died he decided to go look up the Fundamentalists. He was little or no use to the Lord's Church on the Narrow Way, and his son has recently jumped ship to join the Greek Orthodox morgue. Morey is indeed in strange company.
C. Robert Morey is a Reconstructionist.
How do I know? By the friends he has. On the cover of at least two of his books, D. James Kennedy does the promo. Kennedy is a famous and infamous Reconstructionist. Also, John W. Whitehead does another promo. This is Reconstructionism up front. So, Morey has the agenda to destroy Arabs and install Israel in the place of power. Ironically, to those who study the end times with a full deck, the present works of the Reconstructionists in the state of Israel are seen as helping prepare the way for Antichrist. Morey is living dangerously.
D. Robert Morey has no zeal for the salvation of Muslims.
The doctor has written a number of pamphlets in which he trashes Islam. He does get a number of things right, while he muddles along madly in several places. BUT, the thing that amazed me was his lack of the Gospel. In several pamphlets he failed to give the Gospel at all. In one, he told the Arab reader he ought to be a Christian. In a couple, he very briefly tells the Arab reader to repent and consider Jesus. No Scripture, and no real time spent giving the Gospel. This is standard procedure for Reformed Reconstructionists.
These kind, like Morey, don't believe that men can decide to be saved-- No will to choose. They don't know who will be saved, so they are terrified of giving the Gospel to someone who is not elected by God. This would be doing a worthless act, and God might even get mad at them for wasting the Gospel. They have no "whosoever" and no "will" in their theology, so they end up with a de facto "go to hell" attitude toward the unsaved. I lived with this in the Mecca of the Reformed Movement in Michigan for 14 years. Don't write me and schmooze me about this. Add to this the hate for Arabs which is so common in most Christians today, and Morey and friends can hardly find an apologetic for an Arab Muslim getting saved at all. They see the Arabs as firewood for hell.
Why would Reconstructionist Morey write the book, Islamic Invasion? Answer: It is popular with Arab bashing Reformed freaks, Pragmatic Evangelicals, and small minded Fundamentalists. What a market!!! So, Jack Chick markets Morey's hate book, as does Dave Hunt, and Peter Ruckman. Many more carry it. Why? Answer: They really don't give a fig for the Arabs and Muslims. I never heard of them getting downtown in Detroit in the Arab communities (400,000 of them) to give out the Gospel. The only one I found there with a good testimony was Dr. Ben David Lew A JEW who got born again! Read that again please. Dr. Lew witnessed mainly to Jews, but he was always visiting Arabs with the Gospel also. He sold Arabic Bibles in his mission also. When the rubber meets the road folks, these scholars are all AWOL.
I read Islamic Invasion by Morey. It is a manual in how to hate Muslims and Arabs. Help yourself, if that is what you want. The book also was woefully lacking in bibliography at critical points. Of course the "Allah is the Moon god" notion was the weirdest of all. I have shown in Chapters Nine through Sixteen, but especially Chapter Fourteen of my book Allah, Divine or Demonic, that Allah came from Babel, Babylon, Assyria, and all points north to be the Solar deity in Mecca. His wife, Allat, was the moon goddess from at least 2000 BC in Babylon and Sumeria. The moon deity in Arabia was Wadd from Saba, who had NO relationship to the Meccan pantheon from which Allah was chosen by Muhammed. Morey's blunder will one day be digested by the Mullahs, and then they will use his book and notions, with other accounts of the god of Sinai, Sin, to make Jehovah into Allah. I only hope Morey lives to see this happen so he can feast on his own shallow scholarship. I sincerely pray that, if this is to be allowed in God's sovereignty, that Morey will see the Mullahs peddling this doctrine on TBN by using his book as proof that Jehovah was the moon god on Sinai, and then later the moon god in Mecca. Morey should be thus rewarded for his arrogance!!!
Now, is this article sour grapes? Believe it or not, NO. I had decided to leave things as they were in the book Allah, Divine or Demonic with a brief discussion of this in an Appendix. But, recently Robert Morey sent me E-Mail in which he started the process which scholars are fond of-- he whined about how I treated him, then he called for dialogue. Well, Doc, this is your dialogue. I am sure I could never hold up against your subtle pedantics, so I have done what I know how to do-- Expose error with Truth. Enjoy, and (take your pick) Shalom / Salaam.
