These stores are serious bookstores with no garbage or filth as of our last visit. Several are owned by Christians. Please help me-- I need any other used bookstores you know of. Also, I have none from the UK or Australia. HELP.
Clay Bookstore
Address: 2450 West Main, Ephrata, PA 17522, Phone: (717)
733-7253,
Clay, PA was recently annexed to Ephrata, PA. So, find Main street going
west out of Ephrata, and travel until you see an "Entering Clay" sign. Drive
slowly until you see the sign for Clay Bookstore. This store is owned
and run by Mennonites. You will have to browse. There are many
old missionary biographies. They carry a line of awards and Bible related
gifts and toys. I suggest you make time to visit the area and eat some
Amish cooking, especially their exceptional ShooFly Pie. I believe the
local auction is on Tuesday evening. Fantastic event. The Hershey
chocolate factory is not far away and is a great bribe to keep kids patient
while Daddy browses the bookstore.
Bicentennial
Bookshop
Address: 820 South Westnedge, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008-- Owner Vaughn
Baber- Phone: (616) 345-5987, Extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
Many serious books, both sacred and secular. Prices are fair to
mildly a bargain. Vaughn will do searches for a reasonable fee. This
is my favorite used bookstore.
Kregel's
Used Bookstore
Address: 525 Eastern Ave SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503-5597, Phone: (616)
459-9444--
Online- www.kregel.com--Very
large selection in the basement. Ask to be taken to the dungeon. Bad
neighborhood, so lock your car. Prices are not a bargain, but they may
be the only ones in the world with the book you want. Helpful but not
very friendly-- A bunch of Type A's. They DO take orders from all over
the world.
Baker Bookhouse
Address: , 2768 East Paris St, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Phone: (616)
957-3110,
Online: www.bakerbooks.com E-Mail
to used book area: used.books@bakerbooks.com Paris turns
left off of the east end of 28th street about two miles east of the Beltline.
The used book section is in the back of the retail store. Good
selection, but smaller then Kregel. Prices slightly lower than Kregel,
and a good selection of defective discounted books. Helpful but not
very savy as to what they have on the shelf. There is also a very tacky
book section in the warehouse. Treasures ARE present there-- through
the swinging doors at the back of the store. You will have to make time
to browse.
Eerdmans
Bookstore
Address: 156 Maple St. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503, Phone:
(616) 459-4591 Ext. 532
Across from St. Mary's Hospital on the west side. This is a small
Eerdman owned store, but bargains abound. Also, discounted defective
books. Famous for Young's concordance and the Pulpit Commentary. Many
recent new titles are silly to liberal, but no profane stuff. Alan
is in charge, and willing to joust on Reformed doctrinal issues. Very
friendly, even to Fundamentalists.
Patience please-- Addresses coming soon.
