THE KINGS OF THE BIBLE
from the good, wise, evil, and ho-hum kings of the ages
Study by Steve Van Nattan
in the Bible are important to edify us in applying Bible truth as it relates to
rulers over us.
the kings of the Bible are a great way to see the glorious ideal in our Lord Jesus
Christ, King of Kings.
this study you will have to fill in sometimes where I have put up titles or illustrations.
These are taken from my experience or from historic writings. You
need to understand that historic writings are interesting, but the Bible is the
to think of some illustration from your life or the Bible that helps you. I
will try to add the stories at a later date.

THE FIRST HINT OF A KING. Kings are a result of sin.
Kingdom- Speaks of sovereignty. Fallen man wants to reign over God's creation.
10:8 And Cush begat (1) Nimrod: he began to
be a mighty one in the earth. [Cf Micah 7:2]
9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod

Micah 5:2-6 Peace is Messiah vs. Babylon]
1. Nimrod the hunter
hunted men's souls according to archaeological discoveries in Mesopotamia. He
was the first one to invent cities, and he also invented the god and goddess arrangement
of divinity. This has come all the way down to us today in hundreds of god and
goddess epics and legends, including the Roman Catholic god and his consort, Mary.
The heathen of 300 AD would not accept monotheism, so the priests of Constantine
rearranged the biblical godhead to fit their lusts. The first king in the Bible
was very influential indeed.
Kings claim divine right
defines sovereignty: Genesis 3:5 For God doth know
that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall
be as gods, knowing good and evil.
THE FIRST KINGS BEFORE ISRAEL AS A STATE.
a. The first kings show
us the pattern for all time.
14:1 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of
Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal (2)
king of nations;
2 That (3)
these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinar
king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
Shinar is with us from its founding to the last hour of the Great tribulation.

Spiritual victory is rewarded both spiritually and physically.

2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew

do we want?
THE GREATEST REWARD IS FROM THE PRINCE OF PEACE. MELCHIZEDEK WAS THE PRINCE OF
PEACE TO ABRAHAM. LISTEN TO JESUS:
10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest:
go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man
according as his work shall be.
WE MUST CHOSE WHERE WE WANT TO INHERIT, HERE OR IN THE KINGDOM. ABRAHAM GAVE UP
OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME VERY RICH AND POWERFUL IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD.
12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace,
whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
Listen to Joe
Morecraft in "With Liberty and Justice for all, Christian Politics Made Simple"
page 167: He is quoting Larry MacDonald who is promoted as a Christian congressman
speaking the night before his death:
kingdom of Christ is one, and cannot be divided in life or in death. If the Church
languishes, the State cannot be in health; and if the State rebels against its
Lord and King, the Church cannot enjoy His favor. If the Holy Spirit is withdrawn
from the Church, He is not present in the State; and if He, the only "Lord of
life", be absent, then all is impossible, and the elements of society lapse backward
to primeval night and chaos."
The chaos is in the mind of this man who thinks the Holy Spirit can leave the
Church. He missed one very important text-- the words of Jesus:
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world,
then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but
now is my kingdom not from hence.
ABRAHAM REJECTED ALL ADVANTAGE WITH THE STATE.
HE ALSO PASSED UP THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE OVER SODOM. HE HAD THE ADVANTAGE IN
EVERY WAY. THIS IS A VERY POTENT LESSON.

BOTH PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL. DO WE WANT WEALTH FROM THE WORLD OR A PIECE OF BREAD
FROM CHRIST? THE BLESSING IS MUCH MORE VALUABLE.
OTHER HEATHEN KINGS
were about 14 Pharaohs mentioned in the Old Testament. Only three are covered
in enough detail to learn from them.
(1) Genesis 12:10-20 Abram and Pharaoh
12:10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn
there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11 And it came to pass, when
he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold
now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall
come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is
his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I
pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my
soul shall live because of thee.
14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram
was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the
woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16 And he entreated Abram well for her
sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants,
and she asses, and camels.
17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with
great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife. Genesis
18 And Pharaoh called
Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell
me that she was thy wife?
19Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might
have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go

Apply to today? Luke 12:11-12 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and
unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer,
or what ye shall say: 12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what
ye ought to say.
HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF THIS IN ACTION.
Acts 5:27 And when they had brought them, they set them
before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28 Saying, Did not we
straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey
God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew
and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a
Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost,
whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33 When they heard that, they were
cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
Acts 6:8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles
among the people.
9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called
the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them
of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10 And they were not able
to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
