How can a Bible believer make a great fool of himself and the Lord's Church?

WHAT IS THE FLAT EARTH THEORY? "KEEP AN OPEN MIND"

The earliest of these flat-Earth promoters was the African Lactantius (AD 245-325), a professional rhetorician who converted to Christianity mid-life. He rejected all the Greek philosophers, and in doing so also rejected a spherical Earth. His views were considered heresy by the Church Fathers and his work was ignored until the Renaissance (at which time some humanists revived his writings as a model of good Latin, and of course, his flat Earth view also was revived). The key to the ongoing development of a flat earth apologetics is that it is constantly evolving. Whenever a violation of science and the laws of nature is raised, the flat earthers do a quick rework. An example of this is that they now claim the moon is translucent and has its own light. This is because the phases of the moon and eclipses are not possible with a flat earth. The flat heads also have moved the sun much closer to the earth, 4000 miles, and have it in orbit above the flat earth orbiting in a physically impossible position. If you bring up an issue of provable science which violates the flat earth doctrine, they will tell you they don't know, but they are sure Dr. Wizenheimer can explain it.

When a doctrine or theory has to be fixed or appended regularly by adding fantasy, one would think that they would lose followers rapidly. But, no, it seems the flat earth model is gathering in millions of gullible nut cases who crave anything that contradicts natural law and the Word of God. Furthermore, flat earthers often make a big deal of Bible truth. They will even claim that to deny the flat earth doctrine is to deny Christ and become a heretic.

Flat earthers always tell you that the flat earth is hard to understand, and they beg you to stay with the thing and "keep an open mind." Did you hear about the man who was so open minded that his brains fell out?

Like all cults, and like all Eastern Mystic religions, the mind needs to be open to a new thing. The mind, theirs, not yours, is not meant to examine things by scientific laws and biblical absolutes. Skeptical reasoning is deadly to the flat earth addicts. What they ultimately call for is faith in the machinations of monkey shine "experts."

The other thing about the flat earth doctrine is that, like all cults, it quickly becomes the main issue in the lives of its followers. The Gospel is trashed, and friends are damned to Hell for defying the new plan. We have seen this before in people who become fixated on the US Constitution and/or patriotism rather than the Bible.

Finally, the whole system of the flat earth reasoning depends on the follower believing that there is a massive worldwide conspiracy to hide the truth. This conspiracy includes all government agencies of all the nations of the world, all universities, all news media, and finally all the pastors of the world who teach that the earth is a sphere. By making this claim, the flat heads can then accuse you of being part of a deadly cover up if you do not convert. This is meant to put you under guilt for not converting.

What then follows is that the moon landing was fake because it could not be done on a moon that flat earthers have invented. Also, all the space probes and ventures beyond the upper atmosphere are fake. The stars are fake, and there are no planets. The heavens are really like an ancient Greek notion of a bowl with holes in it through which light shines. So, everything NASA has done is a crock and has been done just to fool you.

This is called paranoia by the world's shrinks. Most of you reading here have met at least one person in your life who believed they were the object of a vast worldwide conspiracy to deceive and destroy them. This is the guy I knew who believed the FBI followed him everywhere he went and was trying to poison him. He was sure, one day, that he saw the FBI in his car's rear view mirror, and he took off on a wild nonstop drive from the California desert to Washington DC. The FBI was still on his tail when he did a U-turn in Washington, so back he came at top speed to California. Somewhere around St. Louis, Missouri he looked in the mirror and the car behind him crashed into a telephone pole. He said he then settled back and slowed down, satisfied that the FBI was stopped by God who caused them to crash. The flat earth theory requires the same gullibility that my friend had.

The peculiar thing about my paranoid friend was that, when he was not possessed by a fit of paranoia, he was a very useful man. The local government gave him assignments to research about the history of our area, and he was the guy who proved that our water in the Mojave High Desert came from the High Sierra mountains. Again, flat earthers may be reasonably sane part of the time.

WHO TEACHES THIS HERESY?

There are a number of Hollywood stars and athletes who believe in the flat earth, like Tila Tequila, John Lennon, and Kyrie Irving. As usual, drunken perverts seem to be leading the pack.

Pastor Charles Lawson defends many flat earth teachings. David Hoffman believes it. I have tried to find any Bible teachers of any reputation who believe in the flat earth, and they don't seem to exist. That should tell us something. The only educated men I have found to be geocentrist (which always implies flat earth) are Gerardus D. Bouw and John Byl of Creation Research Society, not to be confused with Institute of Creation Research.

Online gurus include Sean Geoffrey Turnbull of SGTReport, David Icke, Mark Sargent of AMTV, Brother Nathanael, Paul Craig Roberts, Michael Rivero, and Bullwinkle.

The whole flat earth mob are made up of, at one extreme, filthy mouthed blabber mouths, and, on the other extreme, Fundamental KJV only Bible believers. The problem is, they all fight with one another. There seems to be no prevailing unified model, and there is no official map of the flat earth. There is a new reference study Bible being published of which I cannot recall the name. It is becoming popular with King James Version only people. The author believes the flat earth theory, and he includes a discussion of it in the study Bible. Check before you spend money on a study Bible.

WHY IS THE FLAT EARTH THEORY MAD SCIENCE AND MAD MATH?

1. The flat earth theory defies mathematics, in particular, Solid Geometry. Every representation of the flat earth, by its proponents, is a flat map, just like the one you had on the wall in third grade. The earth must be presented in three dimensional format, as is done with a globe which you also may have had in your third grade room.

Flat earth people all have the top of their world figured out, but the under side is a mystery to them. And, they will tell you God does not want us to see the underside. That conceit is morbid slap in the face of Christ, who said,

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

The flat earth people love to refer to this Bible text:

Isaiah 11:12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

This is a reference to Messiah who will restore the Jewish Diaspora back to Israel in his future Kingdom. The flat earth people want this to be taken literally instead of figuratively. Well, you flat head twinks need to understand that a three dimensional earth, as in solid geometry, is either a pancake, as some of you claim, or it is an angular box. If you insist that the earth has four literal corners, then the earth is a tetrahedron, not a cubical form. A cube has eight corners.

The tetrahedron at the right is the ONLY way you can come up with four corners in solid geometry. You are flaming hypocrites if you can never move on from plane geometry, which is a flat surface that is infinitely large and with zero thickness, to a solid object in three dimensional space. Show us your toys in all three dimensions, not as a wall map with a mug hanging on the bottom.

If you insist on using Isaiah 11:12 to define the earth, then stop showing us the circular map you all seem to crave. Show us the four sides of your four cornered earth, ALL FOUR SIDES. Where is Los Angeles in relation to Hong Kong? How does an airline pilot avoid flying past the edge of the earth?

The most violated law is the a law from Solid Geometry, which some of us took in high school. If you head off in any direction, and if you keep going straight with no curving, you will never come back to the point where you started. The flat earth people claim that if you fly off in a straight line, you really end up curving around the top surface of the flat earth pancake. This is insane logic.

2. The flat earth theory defies the law of gravity. The sun and moon are said to orbit around an axis rising straight up from the center of the pancake earth. There is no mass in their model to keep the sun and moon in orbit. This is typical of the theory. There are serious violations of the laws of nature.

3. The flat earth theory defies the obvious formation of heavenly objects. Observers of the heavens, with the eye or with telescopes, see spherical objects, not flat. The moon, the planets, and the sun are all spherical. This is because large celestial bodies are pulled into a spherical configuration by gravity which is created by the mass of the objects. Why would the earth be an exception to this known fact?

4. Mirages at sea. Sailors for centuries have reported seeing ships sailing along above the horizon. Others have seen whole cities and mountains while there is actually nothing there. It turns out that refraction of light can pick up these images from far over the horizon and present them in the sky for observers to see. The distances, once known, prove that the image was made by things far over the horizon. Why would such things be seen if we could see unrestricted by the curvature of the earth? Flat earthers claim these mirages prove the flat earth. The fact is, on most clear days, the mirages cannot be seen. Only special light refraction effects produce them. 5. The insane notion of an edge or perimeter. We now return the the shape of the earth, and we remind the flat earth people that their earth must hang in three dimensional space just as certainly as the sphere it really is. You can show us the flat map of your earth, but please answer these questions:

A. What happens when we come to the edge. I understand most of you think there is a wall there which is supposed to keep us from falling off. I also hear that you claim there is a monstrous conspiracy by the United Nations, and thousands of other world agencies, to keep us away from the wall so we will not learn about the wall.

Let me take you on a world safari of classic proportions. We will start at Nairobi, Kenya and fly due West. We will soon arrive at Kampala, Uganda, and then we will pass over Kisangani, Democratic Rep. of Congo. Our last stop in Africa will be Libreville, Gabon where we have a lunch of wild boar. We pass over the island of Sao, Tome, and on to the east coast of Brazil to Belem. We next cross South America and land at Quito, Ecuador and stop for tomate de arbol (tree tomato juice). We take off and pass over the Galapagos Islands where Darwin invented his nonsense theory only slightly more mindless than yours. We fly west over the Pacific Ocean and over Kiribati, a Pacific Island nation, and on to Nauru where we stop for mango papaya sherbet. We next fly to Jakarta, Indonesia where they make the processor chip for this computer you are using. Finally, we make one long flight across the Indian Ocean, and we land in, (please be sitting down) Nairobi, Kenya. We flew in a straigh line which can be proven by navigating with the stars.

All of this trip was in a straight line, no wandering, no flight over the north or south poles. The fact is, if you take off in any direction in solid geometry, and if you do not alter course, that is, you do not set up any algorithm for redirecting your course, you will never come home. You will go in that straight line course for infinity, or for eternity. The ONLY way to go in a straight line and end up back where you started is to set up a formula for traveling in a straight line on the surface of a sphere in plane geometry terms, while traveling in a fixed curve algorithm in solid three dimensional geometric space. That can only be done on a sphere. Welcome to Nairobi and the real world my friend.

B. I want to know what happens if I manage to get over the wall out yonder at the edge? Do I fall off the world, as the superstitious nut cases believed during Medieval days? Furthermore; what is the under side of the earth like? If God does not want us under the world poking around, why did he not give us instructions about this in the Bible?

I predict that very soon these preachers of flat earth doctrine will be telling us that hell is down under, and I don't mean Australia. They may also start blabbering about aliens and ET living under the world and coming to torment us.

6. Satellites. How do satellites stay in orbit? The reason they do is because they are parked at just the right point, and at just the right speed, to meet a perfect compromise between gravity and escape from orbit.

If you tie a ball to a string, stand on a football field (flat earth), and swing the ball around your head, the ball will keep going just fine. Let go of the string, and the ball flies off, AND it falls to the ground. The only object which meets the criterion of a satellite staying in perfect position is a sphere around which to orbit. The other model, a flat world, will require propulsion added to the satellite to keep it aloft, and we all know that satellites are not self-propelled.

7. People with high powered telescopes have watched the International Space Station pass in front of the moon. With the flat earth model of the solar system, this would be impossible. If you are reading here, and if you believe that the satellite system is a big hoax and conspiracy, AND, if you have a dish antenna on your roof, what is that antenna pointed at, a passing crow?

By the way, some of you flat deluded souls have a double dose of stuck on stupid. You believe the universe is geocentric. For the gullible souls, this means that all the objects in the universe rotate around the earth. This is impossible for one simple reason. The stars would have to be traveling around the earth at many times the speed of light to make it all the way around the earth in 24 hours, or even to stay in a geocentric orbit so that they stayed in the positions we see them. I am assuming you are one of those who believe the earth does not rotate but is stationary.

For some enlightenment of the ignorant, let us determine the speed the sun would have to be traveling in order to circle the earth every 24 hours. The formula is C=2PiR, C being circumference and R the radius. Using a radius of 93 million miles, we find that the sun would have to make a complete orbit around the earth at about 7000 Miles Per Hour. At that speed, the sun would leave a significant tail like a comet. Can you imagine how fast Betelgeuse and Arcturus have to be traveling to stay in geocentric orbit around the earth? This assumes you believe that the earth does not rotate, which these doofus geocentrists do not. This is also the reason the committee decided, some time ago, that the sun is only 4000 miles from the earth. That fixed the insane math problem with nothing to back it up.

Flat Earth doctrine takes a lot more faith than to just believe, "Thus saith the Lord....."

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT A FLAT EARTH?

Answer: Nothing

But, the Bible warns us about these alleged Bible teachers who teach scientific lies.

1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

The flat earth theory is in clear opposition to the facts. Look at a photo from space, and you see a round earth. The flat earthers will tell you all of these photos are manufactured to deceive you and hide the flat earth. This conspiracy alibi for insane logic will be discussed further on.

I also must warn you that there are flat earthers who do not believe the theory at all. They have joined the movement in order to have some fun messing with people's minds. For this reason, do not waste your time debating with a flat earther. He may just be trying to befuddle you to amuse himself.

Psalms 4:2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.

Leasing is lying. When you take up the flat earth or geocentric universe theories, you make a total shame of yourself and all your Bible believing friends. The wicked, who hate Christ, take great delight in mocking at what they believe are the novel and absurd things Christians believe. If we are to be mocked from the science side of life, let it be over creation, climate change, or life in the womb. We have no business taking up with rubbish science.

Flat earth and geocentric universe promoters are creeps. They prey on gullible woman and their pansy pie eyed husbands. They are all laden with sins, which implies that one reason they have detoured into Mother Goose science is because there is something very evil in their lives which they want to hide behind their new found obsession.

"THERE IS A CONSPIRACY"

As with many Mother Goose theories, the facts which slap the ordinary observer in the face are easily dismissed. Any facts which mitigate against the flat earth or geocentric theory are said to be the result of a massive world wide conspiracy. We are asked to believe that NASA, the US Government, all educational institutions, and all of those same entities in China, Russia, Europe, and Japan are in on the conspiracy. And, I find online that the viewer is told that if he does not join the flat head cult, he will become de facto a part of the conspiracy.

Any system of doctrine or alleged science, when it bumps up against contrary facts, which always resorts to the claim that there is a conspiracy, is a system of fools and mental midgets. The universal magnitude of a conspiracy which fakes the solar system, fakes all satellites above 12,000 miles, fakes all photos into and from space, and fakes the whole navigational system of the earth, is impossible. No conspiracy can gather in that many people to all agree to deceive the masses without a man of academic stature blowing the whistle now and then. We are talking about a conspiracy of billions of people, not just a couple thousand willing shills, as with Climate Change.

There is a name for this- paranoia. "The whole world is against us because we know the inner secret."

Evolution is the only theory in world history that has ever been more universally pervasive than the flat earthers' cult. Even the theory of evolution is not accepted by a number of academics. A scientist named Immanuel Velikovsky (see photo) came up with the Catastrophic Theory of the origin of the earth. He was not a Christian, but he had millions of followers, and his theory is now in renewal among trendy science buffs. There have been a number of cosmologists who have broken with the flow as to the origin of the universe. And, evolution is the single most pervasive conspiracy in modern times.

So, when your pastor tells you that the reason you never heard of the flat earth theory, until he started teaching it, is because the United Nations and NASA are covering up the truth, your pastor is a blithering idiot. He has bought into a lie, and if God does not chasten him soon, you need to assume he is not a born again Christian. No true man of God will be allowed by God to promote lies and rubbish in the Lord's Church without chastening. If I were in your situation, I would find another church.

CONCLUSION

If you enter "flat earth theory" into Google Videos, you will find hundreds of videos promoting the theory. Why are there not more people making videos exposing the hoax?

Answer: It is thought to be too bizarre to give it the time of day. That is what I thought until a lady we care about fell head over heals into the thing. The danger in exposing heresy or science myth is that it will have the reverse effect and draw people into the thing.

The Internet is a powerful force for persuasion, and we now have two generations of people who have had an overdose of myth and legend presented to them as truth. This goes from this flat earth notion to UFOs, Star Wars, New World Order conspiracies, right up to the moment in the hacks and tricks alleged to have been done by both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the recent election. We have an overload of rubbish on YouTube, and millions of people are suckered into la la land where Mother Goose and the Wizard of Oz reign supreme.

 

I have personally been told many alleged truths from people who have no other source than YouTube. They seem to have no ability to come to the Internet with a healthy sense of skepticism.

When I was growing up in Africa in the 1950s, printed pamphlets and materials were rare in Swahili, the local trade language. For this reason, many Africans considered anything in print to be absolutely true. If the parents were illiterate, they would have their kids who attended school read the printed items to them, and they would pin them to the wall of their hut. Even cigarette packages became the final authority on some topic. When we were done with a Sears and Roebuck catalog, African students would beg for the old one, and they would take it home to be used as a reliable source on what America was like. The Russians took advantage of this and printed loads of anti-American propaganda.

YouTube, on the Internet, has become the same thing to millions of gullible victims. And, the flat earth people are having a hay day loading on feature length videos which present the flat earth as Gospel truth. Ninety percent of the sites on the flat earth, which I found on Google, were pro-flat earth. None of them were done by articulate authoritative sources, and few videos are on Google refuting flat earth. But, never mind, some of you people still suck it up like those Africans in 1950.

There is another issue with YouTube, and I have never seen anyone talk about this. Many kids were deprived of certain rites of passage when they were growing up. Research has proved that the majority of men who smoke cigars were weened too early or not nursed by their mothers. Men who join Freemasonry often had no club era as a boy in which they belonged to a secret boys' club that met in the woods or a tree house. My theory on the flat earth theory is that these people were deprived ot listening to stories being read to them when they were young. Most kids in the American culture were raised on kids' cartoons and fantasy programs on TV. These kids had all the imaginary images ready made by Hollywood, and they never had to make their own fantasies- no playing cops and robbers, and no playing house with other girls. Their imaginations were not given the freedom to run wild when they were kids, which is a very healthy thing, so when they come onto conspiracies and secret information, they dive in and suck it up. They are now adults, and believing in Mother Goose and the Wizard of Oz is not going to make them a very useful person. Thus, they believe just about everything they see on YouTube, and this becomes their fantasy world and makes them childish in mental behavior.

If you do this, and if you are getting the feeling you need to make a mind shift, I have a suggestion for you to cure yourself. Find books on exploration and adventure..... TRUE STORIES. If you can find documentaries about past events on YouTube, go there, and let you imagination flow with a true story rather than fiction. If you are a gamer, repent. Stop cold turkey, and find youself some area in inquiry that will stir your zeal to get into the real world.

I love to read tales of the old days in Texas because I live here. I can get the feeling I am walking where Big Foot Wallace walked, or I can look at the cattle ranch next door and mentally turn it into the cotton field it was one hundred years ago. You need to find a connection with known history or facts as a sign post to your quest to restore the imagination you were deprived of by Hollywood and TV. These people are here in 2017 just as certainly as they haunted David, the Psalmist. Will you be suckered in by them?

This stuff is addictive. There is a lust to dig deeper and deeper into fantasies and theories which are invented by perverted minds. And, one day, you will not be able to return to reality. Your mind will be captive to the fantasy.

I had a friend in college who decided that if he was going to understand the effects of LSD, he would have to try it himself at least once. He wanted to be a psychiatrist some day. He did try it, and he had a very beautiful "trip." He later regretted doing this, and he told me it took him six months to convince himself there is not another reality out there which can be reached via LSD. The fact that he had tested 200 on an IQ test failed to help him leave the LSD fantasy behind. Your fascination with the flat earth theory is exactly the same. You are now convinced there is another complete explanation for reality, that is, as to the universe. You may need to seek out a pastor or evangelist to pray with you for deliverance the same as if you were possessed of devils. It is entirely possible that you ARE possessed with a devil.

Isaiah 44:20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

And, when your pastor, or some famous Amos preacher, picks up on some myth, will you follow along without question?

James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

Key word- Reprobate- Means worthless, castaway, rejected.

There is nothing improper in rejecting a preacher or teacher who tries to lead Bible believers into myths and false science. In fact, it is a noble act of service to Christ to publicly point these people out and rebuke them boldly.

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Put the hammer to them.

One last warning though..... You are destroying your testimony for Christ. Rational people who have even a smattering of science study in their past KNOW you are a fool. Why would they trust you to deal with the destiny of their soul?

Who will go to Hell because you made such as ass of yourself that sinners reject the Gospel also?

 

 

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE WHEN THIS IS BROUGHT TO THE CHURCH?

Having covered many Bible texts in the discussion above, any pastor reading here will be doing a minor panic right about now. "What do I do when some church member brings this to church some Sunday morning?"

This flat earth heresy will totally trash you church's testimony if the word gets out in the community that you even tolerate someone in your fellowship who chatters about the topic. You must not linger when you hear of it. You must speak to the person at once and tell them that, under NO circumstances, will they talk about the flat earth myth in your local church.

There are several topics which, if they become table or foyer conversation in your church, will put you on the bull's eye for mockery in the community and even possibly a visit from Homeland Security or the FBI.

Guns- Gun talk in private is harmless, but in a public gathering it sounds like a movement.
The Militia
The US Constitution- Nothing must replace the Word of God as written authority.
Patriotism to an obsession- Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.
Tax rebellion- This will get you a visit from the IRS and possibly a visit to check your personal taxes.
Flat earth theory
Computer games- There is no topic more meaningless, especially for young people.
Gossip
Anarchy- Even the allegedly benign type
Libertarianism
Most conspiracy theories- Never preach conspiracy theories for any reason. Preach Christ and the Word.
Alex Jones- This man may very well be a plant by a US Government agency.
Rush Limbaugh- He has a filthy mouth at times.
Filthy communication, as in dirty jokes
Man flirting with women or girls
Man who drifts to the ladies to visit instead of the men- He is perverted.
Amway Distributors- Especially if they use the church for business contacts and pamper YOU.
Bawdy women- They dominate their husbands and are famous in the community as pests.
Woman who touch men when they talk to them
Men- Visa versa

As the pastor of the church, you need to mention these in passing from time to time as topics not appropriate in gatherings of the church people. They make visitors come to conclusions which may well result in them never coming back.

One Sunday we went to church in Tennessee, and the men were in the foyer talking about what sort of violence they would do to certain moral degenerates if they were confronted. What they might do was not what bothered me. But, to find this the topic of discussion when I am entering the local church to fellowship and worship was troubling. And, a couple of young men had their pocket knives open and tossing them back and forth from hand to hand like street gang members. I mentioned it to the pastor, and soon after that day he mentioned violent talk and threats against evil people as highly suspect talk for church fellowship. I was encourage at what he did.

Again, the flat earth theory discussion, if heard by visitors to your church, will result in the whole community learning you are a bunch of nut cases. After all, what is the by-word for a weird obsessed person who talks crazy? "He is a flat earth boy."

Ultimately, if a member or visitor cannot refrain from chattering about the flat earth heresy, run them off. I don't care how important they seem to your church life. Get them out the door, and do not let them back until they recant with conviction from the heresy. My experience as a pastor with such distractions has been that the direct one on one approach is best. Do not wait to discuss it with the church board or leaders. Slap it down yourself so that some soft headed member does not plead the cause of the trouble maker.
